My main Windows 7 Pro computer that I use every day, the one that is connected to everything, 3 Moniters, 5 usb drives, my living room TV, and an outside antenna, and 3 keyboards is suddenly restarting at night on its own. When I start my TV in the morning and scroll through the options to "My Computer", instead of my desktop showing where I left it the night before, there is a big font message that says, "You are no longer able to receive updates, You are no longer able to get help from Microsoft, You must update your computer to Windows 10." When I x that out, it takes me to my password that allows me to enter the password, and once I enter the password, things are back to normal and my desktop is showing. I went to my control panel and checked my updates and found the following two updates below had been entered at 3:02AM this morning.

I was not having any issues or problems with my computer before the updates at 3:02 AM this morning so why did Microsoft do this? If I no longer get updates, it will cut off my MS Security Essentials updates

This is just a guess as I have zero Windows 7 installs. Even though Security Essentials reached end of life a couple of years ago Microsoft continued supplying virus definition updates. It MAY be that Microsoft has stopped doing this and this stoppage is causing your issue. It is possible that Security Essentials is trying to update virus definitions but is no longer able to do so.

Like I said this is just a guess as I have no way to test. I know that you don't want to hear this but you REALLY need to get rid f Windows 7. I also loved Windows 7 but it is 4 generations old and obsolete. As time goes on you can expect more and more problems.

I'm still running Win 7 as my primary OS, i understand the risks but Win10 does nothing for me and Win11 is beyond my hardware.

@Allyson, i havent seen your issue, yet.

I agree that you should really move on from Windows 7, but if you absolutely don't want to, you should probably remove that monthly roll-up that was originally released in January, 2020 that your PC just installed.

It is likely to be the source of that nag you are getting.

You should then turn off Windows Update to prevent it from coming back unexpectedly:

Since you technically aren't going to get any updates for Windows 7 as it is out of support, you could get updates for MSE manually -- https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi/defenderupdates as long as they continue to publish them. Scroll down on that page and you'll see a link for the latest definition files for MSE on Windows 7 -- be sure to select the correct flavor or 32 bit or 64 bit.

This page includes the same links and also instruction on what to do with the downloaded file to install it:

Hi All.........First of all, I do intend to keep Windows 7 Pro "Forever". They say it isn't over till the Fat Lady sings or maybe even Yogi Berra's famous quote, "It ain't over till its over". You will recall that I got a message from MS that I would not get any further updates but that was not the case.....I got my Security Essentials update at 3:02 AM this morning and the computer did not restart and my desktop was still there when I woke up so all that I can assume is that one of those two updates that I listed caused the computer shut down. "HOWEVER", I have also decided to purchase a new Dell Computer with Windows 11 installed...........Dell [Windows 11 Pro] Inspiron 3910 Desktop Computer, 12th Gen Intel Hexa-Core i5-12400 up to 4.4GHz (Beat i7-11700), 64GB DDR4 RAM, 2TB PCIe SSD + 2TB SATA SSD, DVDRW, WiFi 6, Bluetooth. $1519.00 You can probably count on me to pester you for at least a year until I learn how to use it.

Thanks once again for all of your help.
