My new Asus desktop computer should arrive this weekend. It will be running Win 10 Home, but I've decided I want to upgrade to Win 10 Pro.
When is the best time to do this upgrade....as soon as I take it out of the box, or after I get several of my programs and data sets installed?

The real question is if you really want to pay out more money for Pro... For most users it does not matter. Jay, I want the additional security and Remote Assistance capability (to help my sister with her computer). My same Asus computer with Pro would have cost me $500 more, and I knew I could purchase Pro for $200....thus I saved $300.

I don't know that Pro has more security unless you use Bit Locker to encrypt your drives. As to Remote Assistance Team Viewer reportedly does fine on this. Team Viewer: https://www.teamviewer.com/en-us/info/free-for-personal-use/I really suggest that you look at the link I posted in my previous post to see the differences. For how I think your is used I think that you are wasting the $200.00 to go Pro.

Pretty sure you can upgrade through Microsoft for even cheaper.
Also, you don't need to actually install Pro over top of Home. You just need to change the Product Key and it will upgrade on its own.

Your point is well taken. I've used Team Viewer for years with several people. My sister just likes Remote Assistant better...maybe I will make her pay the $200 difference.

Just checked my Microsoft account, I paid $99.00 in 2020 to upgrade form Home to Pro.
