A while back I stopped monitoring my Gmail account but, fortunately, left it active. Since I stopped monitoring it I removed it from my PayPal account. Lo and behold a member tried to make a donation to these forums and kept getting an error saying that the recipient was not valid. Sigh, the donation link it associated with the Gmail account. The solution was simple just needing me to put the Gmail account back in my PayPal and all is fine except for the fact that I don't monitor the Gmail account so would not see a notification for any activity on my PayPal account associated with the Gmail account.

So the donation link is fixed but I don't know if a donation is made. This is what I didn't know about Gmail. As I did you can set a rule to have Gmail forward to another email account. I set a rule that, if the email was from PayPal, to forward to my main email account and delete from Gmail. Works like a charm.

The only reason that I bring this up is that it may not be generally known that this can be easily done. It allowed me to get wanted notifications sent to Gmail without my having to add Gmail to my email client. I thought it was sort of cool. :D

I wasn't aware that Gmail did this, either. This option is available with my ISP -- I redirect mail to my Exchange account and it does not remain in my ISP's mailbox.

I was never really one to use my ISP for email. My thought is that, if I change my ISP, anything I had set up with the old ISP email becomes defunct.

That said I only ran into this potential issue when I lived in Florida. It seemed like the cable companies changed like twice a year for quite a while. Where I am in Wyoming Charter became Spectrum but old Charter emails were kept. This was not the case when I lived in Florida and there was a cable provider change. I left Florida in 2010 so things may be different today.

I generally don't use my ISP for email, but occasionally there's communication from the ISP itself. And I've probably used it as an alternate contact email at times. The lack of regular messages to that mailbox makes the forwarding option very good -- much like your discovery with Gmail.

I never thought of seeing if my ISP (Spectrum) would forward emails. I don't monitor that account either but just changed my contact email in their system.
