I think that I already know the answer but am looking for confirmation.

Every time I do a 'feature update' I lose the network shares to the data drives on my MS Surface and micro PC data drives from my main system. This involves both my network shortcut links and jobs in GoodSync. In both cases the data drive letter tends to change. Not a big deal to fix but irritating.

I figure that, in both cases, this is due to the data drives on both systems being 1 TB micro SD cards rather than fixed drives as I never have such an issue with the desktop in my bedroom which uses all fixed drives.

Anyone think of another cause other than the drives in question not being fixed drives?

The only thing I've encountered with "lost" network shares is when Windows decides that my network is not the same private network and sets it to public. Once I identify the network as private from public, sharing is once again active and my network shares are restored. I've not had drive letters change on me. I don't have any MicroSD cards as Shares, just internal drives and a NAS. I suspect that your diagnosis is correct in that the issue is caused by them being MicroSD cards.
