When Windows is starting up and is to the point of loading my desktop and my icons on both the task bar and the notification bar, I get three quick messages in the notification bar area. Each message is the same, and in essence it says that this device will run faster if plugged into a Super Speed USB port.

It so happens, I have three USB Seagate external drives. All were advertised as USB 3.0, and all are plugged into a powered 4-port USB 3.0 hub; this hub is then plugged into a 3.0 port in the back of my tower. I've never really measured the read/write speeds of any of these external drives, but I do know that they perform much faster than they did when attached to the USB 2.0 ports on my old computer.

Not sure exactly what this message is trying to tell me, maybe:
(1) The drives are not really plugged into USB 3.0 ports, or
(2) The drives could actually work in something faster than 3.0 (is there a 3.1 Super Speed?)

Any opinions as to what this message really means? Thanks......

I really have no idea but wonder if the "Super Speed" reference just might not be referring to the ability of the external to connect via eSATA. eSATA is a port similar to USB but much faster almost approaching the speed of an internal drive.

How would I check eSATA capability?

I would think that it would be in the drive and/or system specs or documentation.

Yea, I ignore it too. But I was just wondering what it meant and where it was coming from.

BTW, I just ordered a 2nd Transcend 2TB external drive. I had a very old Seagate 232GB USB external drive attached to my new computer that it just didn't like. In fact, the Velocity tech said that was sometimes the case with the new UEFI BIOS. So occasionally my system would hang at the Velocity splash screen when I booted up......once I unplugged the old Seagate drive, it booted right up. So I totally removed the Seagate and ordered another Transcend.

I don't leave any usb drives plugged in and don't plug them until I am booted up. I have a few older drives that are plugged in but they have power switches, so I don't leave them turned on.
