One would think this to be a simple question, but knowing Windows ...

Is it safe to delete ALL Temp folders and files in Win7 if they are more than a couple days old, no matter where they are located? Again, I would ONLY be deleting Temp folders and files, nothing else. Of course I will be backed up to the hilt, but I am puzzled why the Microsoft built-in cleaning feature ignores so much temp stuff, and even CCleaner ignores some of this. Is there a reason why MS and CCleaner ignore so much Temp stuff? ISN'T TEMP SUPPOSED TO MEAN TEMP, or has MS created a new definition for temporary?
Thanks for all opinions,
Acadia

\Windows\temp is generally safe to clean out. Why it isn't by the disk cleanup and ccleaner, I can't tell you.
The appdata\temp is here:
C:\Users\%User%\AppData\Local\Temp
Be careful in that location.
In both locations, some files may be in use and won't be allowed to be deleted.
With today's rather large drives, I am never concerned about the contents of \temp unless I'm cleaning up malware.

I agree Steve as to the large drives. I'm on my laptop right now and even with a dual boot and 125GB of data I still have over half of my 1TB drive free.

Still I can under Acadia's desire to keep a clean and tidy system although I'd just go with Disk Cleanup and not worry about what it didn't remove.
