Firefox 3.6, Win 7.

When I click on desktop icons THIS WEEK, I am getting the message above.
Within Firefox, all programs are accessible; it is just the links from the DT.

I have not updated FF, although I am running a version that is no longer supported, which should not make any difference, I don't think.

I reset use FF as my default.
In Advanced settings, I cleared the Network cache.
In Privacy settings, I set Clear history when FF closes and cleared the cache.
Before I try the several other recommend suggestions, I am wondering if there is a certain fix.
