As a few of you know I recently moved to London due to a new job at the beginning of the year, which for me was a big step. (I come from a small village, in the middle of the UK).
Work has been going well and It's hard to believe it's been 9 months since I started at my new job.
Not long after joining I got involved in a big multi-million pound project (which for a lad like me from a small village in the UK) was pretty overwhelming to say the least.
Anyway, I was involved in initially coming up and implementing the email migration from the company we were "absorbing". And to make matters worse, for some unknown reason the "Go live" date was a Thursday evening! Not exactly the best time to do it.
Due to how well I took to this, I was soon pushed in to other areas to help make sure they were up to speed and ready for the migration. Which in itself was nice little confidence boost that I was fitting in well.
Well the project has been and gone, And after a few sleepless nights on the go-live Thursday/Friday/sat/sun making sure everything was as good as it could be, a month on I find myself at our team meeting. Imagine my surprise when during my team meeting, my Manager presents to me the following:
this was voted for my a lot of people on the project who i'd personally helped out and it really did make me speechless!
Just thought i'd share this for those who have been following my progress over the years!
and also for anyone who stumbles upon this in maybe the same sort of situation as I found myself in.
When you come from somewhere small I always had that thought in the back of my head, am I going to fit in here, are my skills good enough for this place, and something like this really helps to cement the fact that I believe I made the right decision
