This is incredible footage shot from as far as i can tell, a Japanese tourist... it's not a perspective i've ever seen before because seats in that location are off the chart expensive... usually starting at £200 up to over a £1000 as you get closer to the Royal box above!
The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2023https://youtu.be/hAjveGVPu4k?si=0FN0G4EUJsvSx1lmAs an aside and because i feel it's now safe to share... back in the 70's my grandmother worked in the cocktail bar of the Beehive Inn in the grassmarket below the castle... a short walk of maybe 5 minutes if you know where to walk from the castle esplanade, anyway in walked the then Prince Charles who was supposed to be attending the tattoo, he explained to her that it wasn't really his thing so he slipped away from the royal protection officers for a quick drink but he couldn't stay long as they would be frantic looking for him... for those that don't know there was a kidnap attempt made on his sister Princess Anne several years earlier and he really didn't like being controlled by the Royal protection officers for what he could and couldn't do, it needs to be remembered that at that time Prince Charles was a teenager and there were the troubles in Northern Ireland, also prior to the kidnap attempt on Princess Anne the Royal family didn't have full time Royal protection.
To say my grandmother was starstuck would not only be the understatement of the 20th century, but if she was still with us today, the 21st as well!
She was blown away that he not only shook her hand but also kissed it, i was forbidden from touching the hand that touched the hand of the future King!... being the mischevious boy most of us are at my age then, i touched her hand when she wasn't looking... she was furious! LOL
I do wonder if the now King Charles remembers that encounter with my grandmother, i suspect he probably does, but it'll probably remain one of my great unknowns.
