This, at first, sounds funny and off the wall but is actually probably a good idea.

I was watching Good Morning Football this morning and was struck by a story they presented.  The NFL's Jacksonville Jags has installed 'smart urinals' in their locker room.  They have a sensor that checks the urine for hydration.  If the sensor shows a green light you are...  ahem... 'good to go'.  If it lights up yellow you need to hydrate yourself.  If it lights up red you need to see a trainer about an IV.

Out of the gate it sounds kind of silly but, with the hydration issues in the NFL, I think it is actually a really good idea.

I for one am not offended by this, in fact i think it's a good idea if the technology can be proven to be reliable... while i'm not an athlete, i have been constantly worried about my hydration levels over the past few years when my body lost its ability to tell me when i was thirsty, and for that matter, when i should be hungry.

Put another way, whilst i've never heard of the NFL issues about hydration before i can think of many examples where the ordinary person in the street has malnutrition or hydration issues but they don't realise it, so anything that could alert them to the issue would be a good thing... especially if this urine testing was affordable, if not free.
