I'm lucky that i can remember when the esplanade was cobbled, it's sad that most tourists today don't see it the way it was... that said, the tattoo is pretty impressive in it's own right The keen eyed might recognise where my email address comes from https://youtu.be/jNl5vB6bBKs

Most tourists think scenes like this are for them but they're not, yes they're ceremonial but they would happen whether or not they are there Sadly the 21 gun salute isn't included in the video, that's done by canon fire so no surprise it isn't in a video from the esplanade! LOL https://youtu.be/EQRfMOJANDk

So, what does a 21 gun salute look like from Edinburgh Castle.... https://youtu.be/QX7hl3ICqgIIt doesn't look and sound like much, but believe me, at street level it sounds a whole lot louder!

I thoroughly enjoyed looking at all those links Doddie but I've always liked Scotland, I've been to a few places there. Thank you for posting them.

Sort of on the same vein, what's not to love about the British armed forces... okay so beating retreat isn't exactly the first thing that comes to mind, but it is the Marines and they do it spectacularly well! Royal marines massed bands - beating retreat 2018 https://youtu.be/2eu16qXTWDY

Oh, this is serioulsly cool even if i don't fully understand the symbolism... why dress in old colonal unifroms and tartan to celebrate independence? Military bagpipers band at Beating the Retreat ceremony in Delhi: https://youtu.be/SyrhdvIL0eQI'm not sure of the year this was filmed, the link suggests 2018, i'm not convinced it wasn't earlier?

Gurkhas btw are extraordinary... their commitment to the UK is beyond comprehension... i've never fully understood why but i've met a few and they have an unpararalled love for the UK that goes beyond explanation. Visit to The Queen's Gurkha Engineers: https://youtu.be/SW8ApsesqgoOther and newer links are available.... Nepal is number one on my bucket list, i just need to convice my wife...
