Whenever I use notepad in Windows 11, the background is black and the text is white. Is there any way to make the background white and the text black like it is in Windows 7?

Thanks Steve, that worked. Can't for the life of me understand why anyone would want to write on black paper. I just jumped over to Windows 11 to do my taxes because Turbo Tax will no longer download to Windows 7. I suppose it wont be too long before 7 will have to be retired but I'm going to ride it to the end.

Actually many feel that the black background with white text is easier on the eyes.

I'm a fan of dark mode in most applications, but I choose to have a light background with dark text for applications that I type into. :-)

I'm with you Steve as to mostly liking dark mode. Actually, with me, it depends on the app or web site. I only have Windows 11 on my Microsoft Surface and use Firefox as my main browser. There is a pretty nice add-on/extension that allows for choosing light or dark for specific sites. If interested I'll make sure to get the name of the thing when I have my Surface open again which is usually daily for reading eBooks.

Isn't it sort of funny how things go in cycles? For instance Windows 11 defaulting to dark mode for Notepad. Way back in the early days 'dark mode' was the norm as indicated in the following image. Of course the image is ancient stuff but sure looks pretty much like dark mode to me. ;)

Yes, green text on black background was my favorite mode years ago.

Actually, in the old days, I probably preferred the amber screens but the green was fine.
