Just kind of curious about something...

How do you connect your laptop to an AC outlet, connect the cord to the computer or outlet first?

I really don't know that it matters but I have gotten in the habit of connecting to the computer first. The simple logic behind that is that if there is a spark I'd rather it be at the outlet end of the cable than the computer end.

Is there any kind of general rule on this?

Hi Jay, I always plug the adapter cable into my laptop first, before plugging it into the AC outlet. Here is a blip I found concerning a Belkin power adapter:

Check out page 8 of 14

I think you have the right idea.

We've always unplugged from the laptop. We generally leave the power plugged into the wall, with the laptop end sitting on the desk. Then we just unplug at the laptop. Very easy. Never seen any bad repercussions from doing that. Don't forget that the AC power is going through an adapter, one that changes from AC to DC. It's not like you are plugging AC directly into the laptop.

You know what i've never really thought about this Jay. Depends on the situation, if my laptop is flashing away saying find a power source now i'll normally frantically find my adapter and plug it in to the wall then the laptop.

Same at work if i'm at my desk, the adapter is plugged in already and I sit down with my laptop and plug the connector in to my laptop.

But then if i'm else where I might plug it in to my laptop first then in to the wall socket.

Well as this is our first laptop didn't know if there was a right or wrong way so I've been plugging into the wall then the laptop, mind you at the moment I'm on battery with 62% left.

I couldn't go on my machine as one of the cats was curled up on my chair so I'm finding out the benefits of having a laptop and loving it, even though it's actually hubby's machine and he hasn't touched it yet and it's been here since last Tuesday.

I, like Patty keep the "brick" plugged in and plug and unplug from the computer (where it is low voltage).

However: that actually is not considered "Green" as power is being used whenever the brick is plugged into the outlet. The same goes for all the transformers that you have plugged in as chargers for various items. They have proven that if you unplug your transformers when not needed you can save a significant amount of electricity/money in a years time.
