Anyone else wish they would get rid of this useless tradition? Since it no longer serves a purpose I wish they would just change the time by half an our for a compromise between the two and leave it alone.

Following is an article discussing the negative effects of the time changes. Some are common knowledge but some may be a bit of a surprise.

Here is a history of the time changes. One just may find it both of interest and, also, a bit of a surprise.

I also found the following of some interest.

I abhor the time change nonsense. It needs to stop!

I agree Stephen, I don't see the point of having it, it is so upsetting to the system and it's the same for any pets you may have. They don't understand why their mealtimes change, it should have been stopped years ago.

I also hate the time changes which is why I made this post. And, yes, it affects my bird as his 'normal' hours change such as when I uncover his cage. Actually I sort of do what I can by making his change over several days. For instance I normally uncover his cage at 10 AM which is now what was 9:00 AM. Sunday I uncovered at 9:15 AM; Monday I went to 9:30 AM and tomorrow will be 9:45 AM. At least it isn't an instant change. Still he tends to be MUCH more vocal after a time change probably due to his internal clock being messed with.

What strikes me as off the wall is how hard it is for a state in the U.S. to quit the time changes. There have been something like 20 states that have passed legislature to get rid of the time changes on a state level but can't actually do so without approval from the Federal Government which the Feds seem to not be willing to give. It is even worse for the whole country to drop the changes. which would need a 2/3 positive vote in both the House and Senate. After that it would take ratification from 75% of the states to actually happen. It is stupid and has no importance in today's world... It no longer serves a purpose.

It amazes me that there have been something like 700 attempts to kill the thing with no success. Most people think that the time change was initially done to help farmers but, from my research, it was actually to conserve energy by lowering the need for candles and electricity not being needed for an extra hour. This makes no sense in today's world as, while there does seem to be an energy saving, it is less than 1%. Yes, that boils down to a lot of saving but does not include the fact that power is more used in the morning. In my humble opinion it seems to me that it balances out as to energy usage between Stand Time and Daylight Savings Time. Boils down to where I can see no actual use for the changes. :dunno:

SAD aka "Seasonal Afective Disorder" is apparently a huge issue for mental health, something i'd never considered before i needed counselling for Long Covid induced PTSD, the counsellor and i had a long discussion about whether what i was going through might be caused by SAD, it was quickly dismissed when she understood that daylight or lack of was not my issue.

Even if it had been it's still a nonesense, when i was a child at school in the 60's the UK Govt 'messed' around with DST that meant one year i went to school in total darkness, they even supplied flourescent arm bands because it wasn't daylight until after 10am, double DST i think they called it?!
Next year they cancelled it!
At some point later they launched DST saying it was so farmers could have more daylight and it'll reduce road traffic accidents... that never sat well with me because you can't extend daylight (as much as politicians think they are god like, even they can't control the sun!) and if drivers can't drive in the dark then take their licences away!

I've read all sorts of reasons why in the UK DST was introduced, ranging from farming to increasing output during WWI and none of them make any sense. I agree that this needs to end and very glad to see that the US Senate passed the bill (how that happened not even most Senators know, got to love politics!), i do hope it progresses so the rest of the world will follow.
