Hi guys,
I'm trying to learn One Drive and have set it up. I am, however, getting a sync error message telling me I have nine files that will not sync. I have tried their help system about how to repair this issue but have not resolved the problem. In my dotage I must be missing something in the repair procedure. Could some give me SIMPLE directions how to repair this issue?

As always, Thanks in advance.

Could you list the problem files?

Another helpful point would be to tell us the folder structure for where they are located on the computer in addition to the file names, types, and sizes.
Does the error indicate the reason for the sync problem? I suspect not... If it does tell you that, please post the full error message.
Also, go to your OneDrive location at onedrive.live.com and see if the files are there already, even partially.

OK Boots,
First, I went to onedive.live.com. All the files are there. The actual message I get is: "There are 9 sync issues in One drive.
No access permission to the item. It appears you do not have access permission to the item. Ensure you have the right permission for the item to sync."
The files are several HP Office Jet 9020 files, a Mackium Reflex link, and an AVG file. I do not know file types or sizes or their other locations. Hope this helps.

Go to File Explorer then 'View'. Under 'View' click 'Options' and select 'Change folder and search options'. Now click on the 'View' tab. Uncheck the box for 'Hide extensions for known file types'. 'Apply' and 'OK' your way out.

Now look at the problem files and the file type extensions should show. I very well may be wrong but I'm figuring they are going to be .exe and .dll files which really should not be in your One Drive folder.

I await Steve's opinion as I believe he knows a lot more than myself about One Drive.

Thanks

I agree, Jay.
Joe, if the extensions are .lnk they are shortcuts. What folder are they located in on OneDrive on the web? Do you recognize the files as being shortcuts on your desktop?

Joe, is that extension .ink with an 'i' or .lnk with an 'L'? You typed .ink with an 'i'.

Pretty sure it's an i. Yes Boots they are shortcuts. I resolved the issue by deleting them. No more error message. I'm still not sure how to correctly use One Drive but I'm working on it.

Thanks for all your help.

This is just a guess but a .ink (with an i) indicates that the shortcuts are probably related to a type if image file. This would be especially indicated if you have a touch screen with a pen.

I don't know why One Drive would balk at such items but it is possible that the associated software sets permissions to where they are not allowed access by other software.

Like I said, just a guess.

Well done. :-)
It actually sounds like you are using OneDrive just fine. I don't know that there's a right way or wrong way. You simply select what folders you want to sync to onedrive.live.com -- OneDrive will then upload those files and keep the PC and the web version in sync. If you have more than one PC you can have OneDrive keep things in sync between them and also the web. I don't have it configured to sync all of my data folders, but one could certainly choose to do that.

I will caution you to not include anything that contains personal information in your One Drive sync. Don't ever put stuff on One Drive that contains your SS#, driver's license bank info, etc..

Good to hear and you are welcome although you pretty much did it yourself. :)
