This morning I had a notice for twenty-two Important Windows Updates on my old Win 7 computer. Fifteen of these updates were Security Updates for Office 2007. I thought Microsoft no longer supported Office 2007? So what's going on?

Sorry can't help you there BB, I no longer have the 2007 version of Office on any of my machines now. Could they be updates that were available before they stopped support and your machine is only just getting them for some reason?

It does appear that there are still occasional updates being pushed for Office 2007. Most of the ones you were offered are older, but the update catalog when searched for Office 2007 and sorted by release date show 4 updates in 2019:

Most of the recent updates appear to be for the various viewers, but it looks like security updates are being pushed for the Office 2007 Comparability Pack -- this one from February:

I don't know, Joan. I frequently check for updates on this computer; in fact, several Important updates were just installed two weeks ago. But the notice for these fifteen security updates for Office 2007 just appeared this morning. Some of these updates were dated before the support stop date of 10/10/17, but several were dated afterwards. In fact, the Service Pack 3 included in the fifteen was dated 4/10/18.

When Microsoft ends the life of a package updates previous to that time are still available but there will not be new ones but there are exceptions. This was also true when Windows XP reached end of life as there were a couple updates put out later to protect against a specific attack.

How long has Office 2007 been on this system and have you recently changed from Windows Updates to Microsoft Updates?I can't say why but your case is not unique. When I installed 2007 it was quite q while before the updates came through.

Jay, I got this computer back in 2009 and I immediately installed this Office 2007 suite. The computer came with the Vista OS installed and I later upgraded to Windows 7.

As far as the update type, I read where Windows Update is a subset of Microsoft Updates. To invoke updates on this computer, I go to the "Windows Update" icon in Control panel. But since this sometimes provides updates to not only the OS but also to other Microsoft software (e.g., Office, Essentials), I guess I am actually performing Microsoft Updates.

I have no idea as to why it would take that long for them to come through unless they were previously there and something happened to make Updates think they were not present... I have no idea what would cause that.
