One or two of you are aware what i do for a living and how i prefer not to make that public, so this is a rare insight into my workplace.

That said these are extraordinary times and if it helps put a smile on someones face then i really shouldn't be hiding where i work especially when there is such a beautiful video depicting that life goes on in some visitor attractions regardless of Covid-19.

Before i post the link to the video that's posted on Facebook i should make it clear that i am not a keeper nor a vet, i am considered a key worker so have and continue to work as normal... for this i feel incredibly lucky... add that when i work i get 82 acres of land to myself with all the wildlife to view as and when i want... lucky doesn't actually begin to describe my appreciation.

You can view the video that Edinburgh Zoo/The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland posted here:

It's called "Carry on Zookeeping", enjoy the behind the scenes insight and the beautiful animals.
https://www.facebook.com/EdinburghZoo/videos/703665477064768/

p.s. For my cousins across the pond & the English, the video comes with Scottish to English subtitles LOL

Btw, the basis of the video is fundraising which is not my intention for posting it here... your local attractions will have their own needs so support them first... my intention is purely to show that life will go on and share it with you.

Stay safe.

Wow, Doddie. My wife is retired now, but when she was working, she would have given anything to work there. Take care.

@Acadia I don't know if you live near a zoo but if you do maybe your wife could consider becoming a volunteer?

Depending on the zoo a whole world of benefits could open up for her if she was a volunteer.

Many volunteers at Edinburgh Zoo are either retired or disabled... or both.

No, no zoos. But she does volunteer here:

Many sources consider the St Louis Missouri and Memphis Tennessee zoos the best in the U.S..

Memphis:

Thanks for the link Doddie, we enjoy watching the behind the scenes programs on Animal Planet around the different zoos, you get to see all the areas the general public don't have access to.

Thanks for the links Jay :)

The size of North American zoos in both land and collection terms never ceases to amaze me!

Going off-topic a bit, you may recall we visited Toronto & New York in 2017 but because the staff were on strike at Toronto Zoo at that time it was closed so we couldn't visit :(

We went back to Toronto last year (2019) with every intention of visiting Toronto Zoo but we over-stretched our itinerary of things to do and sadly didn't get to the zoo that time either.

Torontonians might be happy to know that last week i looked into going back there next summer because it's the last happy place my wife and i visited and we need/deserve something to look forward too, but sadly due to Covid-19 we can't get travel insurance at this time so i've had to shelf that idea, though i could if i wanted book flights and accomodation but the risk without insurance is too great.

Torontonians will be happy because when we visited in 2017 there were record water levels set on Lake Erie Ontario causing extensive flooding to the waterfront and Islands areas... in 2019 there was an even higher new water level recorded causing even more local economic damage.

Seems like every time we go there we're Jonah's when it comes to Lake Erie Ontario! LOL

[Edited by Doddie to tidy up bad grammar and stike out and correct the Great Lake name, my bad.]
