Seemed like the best place to put this... At times, malware may lock files making their removal difficult. This is where GrantPerms can help you unlock files blocked or locked by malware. It can also be of use in cases where you find it hard to remove am 'old windows' folder after an upgrade install. It is a small portable tool that will check file permissions and unlock multiple files and folders. This tool is also useful in cases where malware locks security files and system files and prevent them from running even after the malware is removed. http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/grantperms/

Boy Jay, I could see people getting into trouble with that one if they were not advanced users.

Think we should move it to the advanced area?

I'm thinking that would be a good idea.

Ok, so what I am about to say will make some of you want to stick your finger down your throat and, well you know ...
The fact is, an ounce of prevention is worth more than a ton of cure. If those systems were properly protected anyways, well, what's the problem?

@ Patty; Nope, no emoticons in the quick reply since I had to strip things down due to the editing issues.
@ Acadia; As far as malware issues I would agree with you but my main reason for posting the software does not really deal with malware. I have seen several times after doing an upgrade install of Windows there is a problem. When Windows does the upgrade it re-names the old Windows folder to Windows.old or the like. In many cases this folder can be difficult to remove even after manually changing permissions. This program is supposed to solve that issue.

Oh, ok, sorry about that. Acadia

Oh, no problem. In fact I happen to have the Windows.old issue in Win 10. Just got around to trying this app to solve and it did not work. I did try it on the Win 8.1 side of my dual and it worked. In that case I created a folder and copied some files. I then removed permissions and tried to delete and failed. I then used this package to 'unlock' and was able to delete. It very well just may be a compatibility issue with Win 10. I'll have to see if I can prove that one way or another...
