Hi Steve
I run Outlook 2010 in Sandboxie, but have discovered the indexing doesn't work when in Sandboxie. The problem is it can't see the index data, or permit, the program doing the indexing to run.
Can you tell me a) where the index data is stored, and what program I need to allow to run in the sandbox to get it to work.
Thanks,
Pete

Interesting question and one I don't know the answer to directly. I know that all Outlook data lives in a .PST (or .OST if using Exchange) file within a hidden folder structure -- typically, here: C:\Users\%user%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook
In Windows 8, Index data apparently lives here for the system and I assume also Outlook items: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft

Hi Steve
Yes I found out that the index data lives in a search folder where you said. Also found the exe is Searchindexer.exe Made them all available to the sandbox, but no soap.
I think it's a time for plan b.
Thanks so much for your answer.
Pete

Hi Steve
Thanks for the link, and I read the article but it won't help. Outlook index's properly when I run it normally, but it's when I try and run it in Sandboxie that it doesn't. Problem Outlook can't reach what it needs when Sandboxed.
For example if I just build a sandbox nothing would happen. I have to give that sandbox direct access to Outpost.pst or it won't work. I need to do the same thing for the indexing, I just haven't figured out what our how. I forced the Searchindexer.exe to run in the sandbox, and also gave it direct access to the place where the index files are kept, but no soap. None of the Sandbox genius's have figured it out either.

There must be some other dependency that isn't being allowed access when you are using Sandboxie... I had hoped that the article defined the dependencies/locations, but apparently not completely if it still isn't working.

Just as a thought... MIGHT help to do the following outside of Sandboxie.
Re-boot the system and look at all the processes and services that are running. Now start Outlook and compare the processes and services for new ones. You just might find your dependency.

Something I need to test, hopefully tomorrow, is what could be the issue based on something I read in the SBIE forum. Namely x64 OS hence x64 search, x64 Sandboxie, and 32bit Office 2010.
Jay I did something like that and found the indexing exe, and where the index data is found, and entered that stuff in SBIE, but it didn't matter.
I'll report back.
