This is a security feature of this software. Think about it, if you put code in a post to say
make text bold you don't see the code as it is executed. Only code that is automatically included in the software and admin generated code that is added to a list is allowed. Any other executable code is denied. I'm sure that you can see the security implications if this were not the case.
A code box will allow just about anything as anything within the box will not be executed. Here is the exact same text that generated the above bold example in a code box.
