Hi.......have any of you read anything about a leaked version of MS Edge working on Windows 7. I was looking for something else and came across this article and was wondering if it can be done: https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/m ... windows-7/I'm afraid to give it a go unless I know from a reliable source that it will work. Your thoughts please.

I know that Internet Explorer is losing support on many major sites but I think there are better choices than getting Edge to work on Windows 7. Unless you want Edge for a specific purpose I would rather see you use an option such as Firefox. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/My main concern is if Windows 7 security would give proper protection with Edge being used as Edge is not designed for Windows 7. It is likely that my concern is overly cautious but, on a site such as this, that is the attitude that I must take. Personally I run Firefox as my default browser over Edge on my Windows 10 Pro systems. Everyone's needs are different but I find that Firefox just works better for my needs.

Edge does not work on Windows 7. The version of Edge in the article you referred to is a leaked version of a completely rebuilt Edge that is using the Chromium (think Google Chrome) rendering engine. I use Chrome extensively. I have used and do occasionally run Firefox, but I much prefer Chrome when not using Edge on Windows 10. Do note that Windows 7 is in the final year for Support. It is going the way of XP... -steve

I was just wanting to know if anyone here has downloaded and used the Leaked version of Edge because that article I sent is very positive about how good it is.

I have not put Edge on my one remaining Win 7 install and will not do so. Even if it did work I would not trust the security of a browser not designed to run on the operating system.
I strongly recommend that you do not try to put Edge on a Win 7 system.
As a note... I have found that Firefox performs better than Edge on my Win 10 systems.

Thanks for the info Corine. My main gripe with Edge is the lack of being able to display the 'menu bar' (File-edit-view-.....). Do you happen to know if this option will ever be added?

I converted to using Vivaldi several months ago, since IE was no longer acceptable at several websites that I visited. I really like this free program, and I was able to effortlessly import all of my Links from IE (accumulated over the span of many years).
