I know that I have been away from this forum for a while. Anyway want to ask someone here in the forum about paging file. I do know that the paging file never turn off as some computer users do. OK my desktop is HP Omen 870-119 with 16GB memory rams on this. And see that the information about Virtual Memory have 1088 MB in Control Panel > System > Advanced system settings > Advanced > Performance > Settings > Advanced > Virtual Memory.

Now on to next after Virtual Memory > Change

[ ] Automatically manage paging file size for all drives. That box is not checked and not sure if I should have the check in the box or not. Your help would be appreciated.

Now about the drives

Paging file size for each drive

Drive [Volume label] Paging File Size (MB)

C: [Windows] System managed
E: [New Volume] System managed
F: [Steam] System managed
I: [NewVolume] System managed
J: [MSTS] System managed

Now my question is about above -- Do all drives need System managed or just the C: drive. Those two drives with names [Steam] and [MSTS] are two different game simulators. Your help would be appreciated about this.

Total paging file size for all drives

Minimized allowed: 16MB
Recommended: 2937 MB
Currently allocated: 1088 MB

Now I would like to know if I should setup in Custon size

Custom size:
Initial size (MB):
Maximum size (MB):

I know that you can multiply with Initial size ( 1.5 times ) and Maximum size ( 4 times ). Or don't bother used this in Custom size.

Please let me know about all above and will change with your suggestion.

I turn off on all my drives except for the system drive (C:\). On the system drive I leave it automatic, System managed size. This has worked fine for me for many years.

I agree with what Jay says.

If you're not happy with the results you can change them back without any loss of data.

I DID neglect a possibility. Are you low on drive space? If so that could change things a bit.

I have the automatic box checked at the top, I have 32 Gigs of RAM so not sure how much the paging file is even being used.

I also have 32 GB of RAM and have, in the past, set my C:\ paging file all the way down to 1 GB with no apparent issues but, as long as there is sufficient drive space, I still feel that it is safest for most users to let the system manage the size.

I don't use the top checkbox to allow the system to manage all drives as I have a total of 6 drives (3 spinners and 3 SSD) and just don't see any reason in having a paging file on drives where it will never be used. Also one of SSD drives is used for a clone backup of my system drive. If I used the option to allow the system to manage all drives it would affect the destination clone drive to where it may no longer be a true clone.

If there is a reason to where I'm wrong in this thinkingt I'd appreciate enlightenment. :)

I have 3 drives, the automatic setting looks like its just using my C drive.
