Hi Guys, I have been getting a strange error message on my WIN 10 PC recently. In fact it happened three times in the last two days.
There is a light blue screen with a frown face (:() and the following: "Your PC has ran into a problem and needs to restart. We are collecting some error information and we will restart for you."
This is entirely new to me. My wife's PC is doing the same thing. I'm wondering if this is the result of the latest Microsoft upgrades.
Anyway does anyone know what is going on? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you apply the May 2020 feature upgrade to the systems? If so did it come through Windows Updates or did you do it manually?

It came through via Windows updates. Do you suspect the updates?

Just had another incident of the blue screen. I checked in Windows update and apparently the latest update has NOT been downloaded yet. It seems to be pending. Is it advisable to download this latest update?

Just to be sure use File Explorer and see if you have a folder named 'Windows.old' on your system (C:) drive. Then right click on your Start Menu and select 'Run'. Enter winver.exe and report the version number. If you have the Windows.old folder, and the Windows version is 2004, will probably advise to restore the systems to a previous version of Windows. This will only be possible if it was upgraded to version 2004 within the last ten days.
I would not do an update at this time. I would worry about a blue screen during the update really messing things up.

Thanks Jay, I did as you said. There is NOT a Win.old file and the present build is 1909. I also had the THIRD blue screen today just a few minutes ago. My wife tells me she is getting these screens fairly regularly as well. She has a separate PC. The two systems are on the same network. Do you think that there is a network problem?

Steve would be better to answer as to network possibilities but I doubt it unless it is an infection that spread through the network. Are both systems the same? I would suspect a driver issue and do an update of any device driver that will accept. Doing a System Restore is also a fair option.

I'm in the process of a system restore right now. I'm going back to just before the last windows update. I'll keep you advised about what, if anything, happens.

I would doubt a network issue. Are both computers the same/similar? It would seem that there may be a problem with the latest Patch Tuesday updates for you on both machines. If the problem stops after the System Restore, that would be a pretty good confirmation. Unfortunately, with the less verbose blue screen errors in Windows 10, diagnosing the cause gets a bit more difficult.
