Does anyone here watch Microsoft Weekly with Paul Thurrott and Mary Jo Foley? I was in another forum and saw a link to it talking about an update that has started to show if you look in Settings and About, to find out what your edition your machine is at, apparently it's something that has suddenly appeared with the update to 2004. I haven't watched it all the way through as I don't have time at the moment but the feature was discussed at the beginning, well after the waffle about the sponsor of the program. https://youtu.be/q88ctET9rO8

Nothing to worry about. Actually it is a good idea and I can't see why Microsoft won't talk about it. All it really does is to separate core Windows apps, such as Notepad and Paint, from the Windows core and put them in a single bundle that will handle all these apps. Previously any updates to these apps had to wait for the next bi-yearly feature upgrade to Windows in Spring or Fall. Now they need to just update the Feature Experience Pack in the Microsoft Store (which I didn't find) which allows such apps to be updated at any time. Your Microsoft Store app needs to be enabled for this to work. Actually you would set Group Policies for the store to disabled for the block store setting, or leave if not configured, to enable the store if it has been blocked. If you have never blocked the store it is enabled by default. I don't know if such updates are automatic or manual.

I did understand what it was for after listening to Mary, I'd wondered what it was for before seeing that link.

LOL! While I found the video you linked interesting I also found them to be more verbose than some of my posts here...

It was the first time I'd come across it so didn't know what to expect, I did find the waffle at the beginning a bit much as I was expecting it to go straight to the point of the question. At least I finally found out the answer to why it had suddenly appeared on my system.

We shall just have to trust Microsoft that it knows what it's doing.
