I am confused with this because I see that my anti-virus program, Microsoft Security Essentials is updated as of today's date with a green icon with check mark. But see the red icon with Windows Security Alerts with a check mark showing on taskbar. What should I do to fix this? Or should be okay because of my anti-virus program is running with updated. My operating system is Microsoft Windows XP with all updated to SP-3. Your help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
John

Is the security alert for anti virus or anti malware?

Check the security center for what the actual problem is. There was a version update to MSE recently, maybe that is setting it off or your firewall could be off too.

Here is what I copied from Windows Security Center
Virus Protection Not Found
Windows did not find antivirus program on this computer. Antivirus software helps protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. Click Recommendations for suggested actions you can take. How does antivirus software help protect my computer?

Hopefully will get the answer about this.
Thank you again,

There have been quite a few reports of this in the Virus & Malware forums for MSE. Some have reported that simply running a full scan with MSE corrected the Security Center mis-information. Others reported that checking for updates from within MSE fixed it. And yet others said that it returned to normal on its own after a day or so. The typical "fix" is a "hit it with a hammer" solution. Uninstall and reinstall MSE. Before heading down that path, be sure to review this posting - Check list for installing Microsoft Security Essentials: http://experts.windows.com/w/experts_wiki/89.aspx-steve

Of course there is always the possibility that it isn't windows security center at all, but rather a rogue. I would run a scan with updated Malwarebytes. There is a grammatical error in that message, unless it was a typo on your part.

Just want to you that Microsoft Security Essentials program is solved late last night by uninstalling and reinstalling the program. I did ran through Microsoft Security Essentials in full scan at first then ran through Malwarebytes in full scan too. Both did not help to solve the problem. At last I uninstalled the program of Microsoft Security Essentials then reinstalled them again. And finally don't see anymore with the red icon, " Virus Protection Not Found ". Want to say thanks to Steve Boots in his reply.

Thought that it was fixed but it's not. After restarting the computer and the icon with Windows Security Alerts popped on on the taskbar. Now I am stuck with this and not sure what next to fix this problem or solve the problem?
Your help would be appreciated.

Since MSE is correctly announcing its status with the green tray icon, you can open the XP Security Center and change the setting to not monitor the status of antivirus from the Security Center. Sorry that the reinstall didn't end up being the solution in your case. I had alerted the MSE team about this issue that appears to affect XP users more than any other version of Windows, but haven't heard anything back on their findings. -steve

Steve -- Thank you for alerting MSE team about this. Hopefully will solve this soon. I was going to ask you about change the setting to not monitor the status of antivirus from the Security Center. You answered this in your reply. I will do that shortly.
Have a good day!
John

I don't know that I would turn off the monitoring (didn't realize that you could) but I'd consider turning off the messaging about it.

That's what I meant, actually -- "Change the way Security Center alerts..." which turns off the alert. The WMI still registers the existence and status that you can see when you open it. MSE presents its own status, so the Security Center alert isn't critical to have. You generally don't want to do this, as the Security Center can alert if something disables the a/v application completely. -steve
