Okay, we have probably all seen that command. You click the box and carry on. This time, though, it looked different. And dumb me... didn't notice until it was too late and I had already clicked. Ever since, I have been getting annoying pop-ups from lodder.club. SO frustrating. I have run MSE and Malwarebytes, but neither came up with anything. The pop-ups seem really random. Sometimes they use a gmail logo and say New Message, sometimes it says Mcafee has expired and should be updated, sometimes something about "This site has been updated in the background." :? Any thoughts on how to get rid of this garbage?

Are you doing quick or full security scans. If quick, do full.

Chek for any browser plug-ins that you don't recognize.

Let us know the outcome of the full scans. Please understand that full scans can take a long time.

Since you are running Microsoft Security Essentials I have to assume that you are running Windows 7. Are you running Internet Explorer as your web browser? If so I suggest changing to another browser such as Firefox, Chrome, Opera or Vivaldi as Microsoft doesn't really support Internet Explorer any more and, potentially, it could become a security risk.

Are you running the free or paid Malwarebytes? If the free you might consider going to the paid version as it will prevent sites with malicious code from loading. Do keep in mind that there have been reported cases where the paid version has caused issues combined with some anti virus software but I have not heard about this in a long time and have never personally seen the issue.

Thanks. Yes, Windows 7. I use Chrome and have always just run the free version of MWB. I tend to think it should be enough, but maybe not if I do stupid stuff like this. :silly3:

This full scan has been running for nearly four hours and it looks like it's only about half done. Wow. Haven't done that in a long time, I guess.

Unfortunately, it appears that this lodder.club adware is fairly new. MSE isn't going to remove it and Malwarebytes may not have been updated to catch it yet.
You may have some luck with some of these tools:
Try adwcleaner: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/
Try Junkware Removal Tool - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/downloa ... oval-tool/
Try SuperAntispyware Free version - http://superantispyware.com/download.html
Try the ESET free online scan: http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner /
Try Hitman Pro Trial Version: https://www.hitmanpro.com/en-us/hmp.aspx This program may be run from a flash drive.

Thanks Steve! :)

@ homefire: Make sure to look at Steve's links. Ya, a full scan can take a LONG time if you have other drives attached.. I should have told you to do a custom scan just selecting your C: drive. I also have a bad habit of forgetting that I run a 'monster system' and things go quicker for me than on a normal system. I mean that I do a Malwarebytes full 'Threat Scan' of my system in just over three minutes. Doing a custom in depth scan of my (231 GB used space) C: drive only takes a touch over 13 minutes.

Sorry, I should have given better instructions. :(

Okay, hopefully I'll have time for that this afternoon. I did miss Steve's post entirely, and I have a meeting this morning.
I do so appreciate you guys! Have I told you that? :D

I had great hopes for adwcleaner, since it found 4 different things, but nope. I've been gone all day, opened the computer this evening and had more popups than ever. BAH.
On to the next thing, I guess.

Some of these malware infections can be pretty tough to deal with. One other thing to keep in mind while you suffer through this is that detection and removal will improve, so perhaps Malwarebytes will be able to deal with it before too long.
If none of the tools help, you may want to try a Reset -- painful in that you'll need to reinstall programs, but it saves all of your data.

Okay, I am tentatively hopeful. The second of the links I tried, the junkware removal tool, seemed to do nothing. If anything, I had more popups after that. But last night I downloaded SuperAntiSpyware and let that one run through the night. And since my restart this morning, I haven't had ANY. (fingers crossed!) Hoping for the best here.

Well, crud. I was doing so well, but then I was cruising around this site trying to find ways to speed up my sluggish laptop, and I decided to try the Auslogics defrag program. Downloaded and installed, and there are two optional things--something called Boost and something about drivers--that were offered during initial setup. I got them both, then started a scan and immediately got the same dumb popups. BAH.

Whenever you are offered optional installs during an install of trialware or shareware, I strongly recommend that you decline.
Just about any program that promises to help a sluggish PC is typically bogus and often the source of more problems. Do try another scan with Superantispyware -- perhaps more than one with a restart/reboot in between.

:/ Yeah, there was no mention of those in your article, and it really looked like just part of the same program, but I could have opted out and should have. I ran it again, so we shall see.

Question: When I try to uninstall these extra programs, I get this notification. Which should I choose?

Reverse any changes then remove.

Agreed -- reverse changes and completely remove.

You can keep the defrag as it is good but DO reverse and remove Boost Speed.

So... my finger slipped on the mouse and I didn't reverse changes. Ugh. I tried to cancel and couldn't. It just went ahead and uninstalled.

I have now been through all of Steve's links except the last, and was still getting popups during the last scan. :/

Fingers crossed that Hitman Pro will take care of it.

Nope. Sigh. Still the popups. I guess I just get to put up with it? Surely MWB or someone will come out with a fix soon?

And something that I was just a wee bit puzzled by... After running Hitman Pro from a flash drive, I rebooted, and during the boot (after the flash drive was removed) I got a DOS-looking screen (white on black) that said Hitman Pro. I thought it shouldn't even be on my machine, much less popping up its own little notification during bootup? :?:

Hitman Pro probably scheduled a boot time scan. Often, malware needs to be removed before the operating system loads. Sorry to read that none of the tools have taken care of it.
Do the pop-ups only happen while browsing the web? What web browser are you using - IE, Chrome, Firefox, etc?
Also, in Control Panel/Programs (You are running Windows 7, yes?), do you see any programs listed with an install date matching the date your pop-up problem began?

Found these instructions here -- https://www.fixyourbrowser.com/removal- ... dder-club/
The page provides instructions for multiple web browsers and doesn't offer any bogus "tools" to remove it, but suggests Malwarebytes as the tool to remove this in conjunction with manual steps for each web browser. I can't vouch for the authenticity of the information.

If you are using Internet Explorer:
Open Internet Explorer. In the top right corner, click on the gear icon (menu button). Go to Internet Options in the menu, click on the Privacy tab and select Settings in the pop-up blockers section. Find the Lodder.club domain and click the Remove button to remove the URL.
If you are using Chrome:
Open Google Chrome, in the top-right corner, expand the Chrome menu. In the menu go to Settings, scroll down to Advanced settings. At the Privacy and Security section click Site settings. In the Notifications settings. Find the Lodder.club URL and remove the Lodder.club domain by clicking the three vertical dots on the right to the URL and select Remove
If you are using Firefox:
Open Firefox, in the top-right corner, click the Firefox menu (three horizontal stripes). In the menu go to Options, in the menu on the left go to Privacy & Security. Scroll down to Permissions and then to Settings next to Notifications. Select the Lodder.club domain from the list and change the status to Block, save changes.
Assuming you have successfully done the above, open Malwarebytes, check for updates, let it update, then run a full scan and reboot when finished.
