If this is true, far out! Just read in a computer forum that Windows Defender starting with the Windows Defender for Windows 10 Anniversary Update (whatever that is) is now compatible with all third-party anti-virus, you can run both at the same time. Really?

Thanks, Acadia

Edit: just read the same on Windows Central.

I have run Trend Micro Antivirus since the early Windows 98 days. I have it on 3 machines with Windows 10 with no issues. Windows Defender recognizes the 3rd party antivirus and lets it handle things. It doesn't actively scan my systems but monitors that I do have my protection turned on and active.

Windows Defender will not provide real time protection when another antivirus registers to Windows as the provider. Defender will, by default, do a periodic scan as part of maintenance.
