Enter Calibre!
https://calibre-ebook.com/about

I've been using Calibre for many years to manage my eBooks but never really looked at its other features. Even just as an eBook manager it is very strong and free. But there is MUCH more...

A neighbor of mine is an aspiring author and has a book he is currently submitting to publishers. Eventually he also wants to have an on-line presence. If he is going to be on-line he would, eventually, want a web site. This would lead to his book being available in eBook format. all he had was the book in Office Word .DOCX format so I decided to see what I could do and entered a search as to how to convert a .DOCX formatted file to .EPUB format (eBook). The first result involved... Wait for it... drum roll... Calibre.

For an eBook manager who would expect it to be able to import Office Word files? I didn't. Well it can! You just click on an option to 'Add Books', navigate to your Office Word file and select.

Select to Convert Books.

By default it is set to convert to eBook format but there are MANY more options involved if wanted.

Awesome piece of free software!

Just to give an example here is a DOCX file converted to EPUB. It is a really old article that I did as to setting up virtual machines but the content does not matter. It is an example of converting a DOCX file to EPUB through Calibre including images. Download the following file and take a peek if interested. If asked how to open just select 'TWINUI' if offered. Otherwise just select your web browser of choice. Except for some page alignments I might do I can't see any difference between the original Office Word file and the EPUB conversion.

BTW, the original DOCX file is 110KB in size. The conversion to EPUB format ended up with a file of a size of 95KB.

Very interesting Jay. It opened in Edge and was quite readable. I played around with it in Edge and had it read aloud....it was perfect, although it did not sound like you.
I just published a book for a relative, but it was a hard copy book.

Thanks Bill. The article is obsolete but I wanted something with images.
