This is the best forum I could figure to put this...

Recently Corrine made a post about OneNote and voice.

The post got me thinking about Windows built in voice recognition, specifically dictation. I used to play with this a bit but have not recently done so. Doing a bit of searching it would seem Microsoft has not done much with the dictation aspect since Windows Vista.

I'm just curious as to if anyone uses this and if it has shown improvement.

When I did play with the thing I found it intriguing but cumbersome as to setup with all the 'practice phrases' needed for it to learn your voice.

It's not something I've ever used even though I've thought about it before but then forgot about it.

Chances are I probably never will, I spend most time on this laptop which is in the living room where the TV is so it doesn't fit in with hubby trying to watch a program and me trying to talk to the computer. :rofl2:

If I did want to try it would be on my desktop which is the other end of the bungalow in what I class as my office, one of the bedrooms actually. :)

Back in the Win98 days I played with some Voice Recognition, I had a program that would listen for my commands and launch the program that I requested.

I have played around with the voice program in Windows 10. It is adequate but has not really shown too much improvement over the years.

If you are really interested in voice recognition, I suggest Dragon Naturally Speaking. It works quite well. The only problem is that it is quite expensive. You CAN control your PC by voice command. There is, however, a fairly steep learning curve. But if you are going to use such a program this is the one to use.

I know about Dragon but won't buy. For my usage voice is a toy to play with, not a productivity tool. ;)
