I'm using Outlook 2007 in both Windows 7 and Windows 8 and have the same minor issue in both cases.
I do not seem to be able to create a message rule involving an email I have sent. With incoming mail I have no issue creating a rule where, if the message is from name@domain, move to folder. However if I do the same thing with the rule defined to send to a folder, if the message is sent to name@domain, it does not work.
The rule seems to be set up properly as, if I select to execute the rule upon creation, the message moves but when another message is sent to the same address it still remains in my sent folder without moving.
Couldn't decide whether to post this here or browsers and email but since Outlook is part of Office....

Sorry I can't help you Jay as I don't have Outlook, I use Windows Live Mail and just have rules for my incoming mail plus newsgroups.

What are you actually trying to do? Apply a rule after sending... To a person or group... Move a copy to (folder) Stop Processing more rules
The message will be copied and the original remains in "Sent" I don't have 2007 handy, but in 2010 there is no option to move it makes and moves a copy.

Below is the rule setup. Names have been blocked to protect the guilty. The rule is as you describe, Steve, except that it is to move the message instead of copy. Attachment:

According to how I read the rule it should move the email to a specific folder if it is sent to a specific person. Since it states to apply the rule after the message arrives I have to wonder if this rule is even possible. But then, if not possible, why would there be the rule option?

OK, thanks, Steve. Now I just have to test it out... Seems to work. I was just right clicking on a sent message and using the context menu option to create a rule, never started from scratch. Just testing one of your links with the [img] tag... nope, does not work. Code: [img]http://bp0.blogger.com/_TsCq7ie4mYo/Rfdec89IVPI/AAAAAAAAV2Y/nk3PBA96FZk/s320/ruleswizard.jpg[/img] I don't think that an image from that site is going to post. I think the issue might be the starting underscore in the '_TsCq7ie4mYo' parameter. Just by looking at the link it looks as though it does support URL Rewrite. Will it post to other forum software? (if you know)? BTW, with an image that is used to help with an issue feel free to use the attachment feature. There is zero issue with server space and I believe that Patty prefers that images used in helping with an issue be on the forum server. The only time the [img] tag really needs to be used is if the image is what might be termed as 'fluff' and has nothing to do with an issue.

Thanks Manny. I got it going. I was creating the rule by right clicking a sent message, not from scratch. I never got the choice to run after sending. The issue is resolved.

I am a bit surprised Jay, that you're still using Outlook and not Windows Live Mail. Is there a reason for this or is it just preference????

Glad that you got it, Jay. I would have uploaded an image, but that one wan't mine. Not having Outlook 2003 handy, I couldn't make an image! -steve

That's Outlook not Outlook Express which is basically dead. Outlook is a much better mail client than Live Mail which took over for OE. Although I must admit that OE was pretty darn good. It's replacements all had some shortcomings.

I used Live Mail and liked it. I switched for two basic reasons.
1) With the prevalence of MS Office there are probably more people using Outlook than Live Mail, or if not more, still a lot of people. If I am going to be working on systems I consider it a good idea to know as much about the different aspects of Office as I can.
2) I just don't like Live Mail 2011. I was happy with 2009 but am not one to continue using outdated software if there is no need.

Not so many consumers using Outlook now, Jay. Businesses, yes. MS dropped it out of Office Home/Student, which is fine; it let them drop the price by a hundred bucks. They did that because home users don't use Outlook, generally. It is a great email program, and does lots of other useful things as well. More and more consumers today, though, are using webmail.

Well, I guess it's a love hate thing. Either you love Windows Live Mail or hate it. It's a mix bag with most of my friends, lots of them like it, like me and have had no issues with it, albeit the others hate it. Personally, I like it a lot and it serves my needs. Thanks for your comments.

I agree with the large increase in web mail users and the movement away from client programs. It is basically simpler. I'm an Outlook fan, myself. I also use Windows Live Mail, but there are enough quirks with WL Mail that I'd never be able to use it as my primary mail program!

I like Outlook as well for its many functions. Each of my accounts, however, has a web interface so if I should need to access it that way I can but it's so much easier for OL to do that work whenever possible.

I have a bad habit of not thinking about web based email as I simply do not like it. I'm sure that it is true that a majority of users probably are migrating to web based. Shoot, it seems like there is a strong attempt right now to push "The Cloud" which I tend to think of web based email as being a part. I won't sit and totally put down cloud computing but it is not for me. I use Sky Drive a little but not much. I guess I'm just old school and want my data on my machine where I know what is going on. Talk about "The Cloud"! Have you looked at http://www.silveos.com/ ? It is an OS written in Silver Light and could very well be showing the direction that computers will go. Silver OS is a working on-line operating system.

Interesting, Jay. I have mixed emotions about Cloud computing, Jay. I would never store sensitive data in the cloud. Skydrive is great for sharing photos and videos and such. I also store a document or two that I like to have access to when I'm not at home - and, amazingly enough - since I copied it to my Skydrive folder, whenever I make changes to the document, they appear on the Skydrive copy! I can see the appeal of having music on the Skydrive. I have nearly 40 GBs of music. Right now it fits on my Zune. Once that Zune goes, I won't be able to carry it all with me. Now I like having it all with me, because I can play whatever I am in the mood for. What I don't get about that though, is paying to stream your own stuff to your own device when you've got to pay for that data stream. With the number of people that I see who lose their data because their hard drive goes and they don't have backups - I could wish more of them stored a copy of at least their photos and such online. Lastly, and I never thought I would say this, but I think the idea of programs in the cloud is a good one for most people. That way you always have the latest versions, and you always have the latest security patches, etc. So of course the main potential problem in all of this is: how secure is the cloud?

I'm not that happy about having my stuff up in the cloud, I like it on my machine were I can keep an eye on it.
I don't use Web mail either, as I don't have Outlook I like Windows Live Mail, I have the latest and it has everything I want. It has everything in one place, email accounts, RSS Feeds, Newsgroups, Contacts and Calender.
I have Skydrive but don't use it that much, I also have Dropbox which syncs with my phone, so any photo's I take with the phone will automatically be in my Dropbox folder on my computer ready to upload where I want them.

The speaker is connected to your laptop... Hmmm, can your tablet handle a 64gig SD?

No, the Nook cannot, nor can my Bionic. My next phone will be able to. The whole point though, Jay, is to be able to carry your music around with you and play it off your mobile device. I can already play it from my pc if I want to. Right now the Zune 120 is the only mobile player that will hold all my music. Unless Apple has come out with a 64-gig iPod - which I would never get anyway. Zune is dead as a device, the Zune player does/will exist as part of Windows 7 phone and Windows 8 phone. But that, of course, means I'd have to switch back to a Windows phone from my Android. I'm just not sure I'm ready to do that.
