As many already know I am NOT a tablet person...

A guy I know got a Nextbook Premium 9 tablet.
http://www.nextbookusa.com/productdetail.php?product_id=9
This thing does have a USB port and I tried connecting both (not at the same time) an external hard drive and a flash drive. The hard drive busy light flickered and then nothing, same for the flash drive. From a bit of a search without much result it looks to me that a connected device has to be formatted ExtFAT. Of course I'm not going to re-format my stuff to test. The USB port on the tablet is a mini but I figure that should not matter.

Can anyone offer any insight on this? Any help as to procedure is appreciated. Could not find anything in the manual but figure that if it has USB you should be able to connect a flash or hard drive.

Generally, the USB ports are for charging and syncing to a PC. I don't see anything in the specs at the link you gave that indicates otherwise for this tablet.

OK, I just figured that if it had USB you could connect. I did see reference on a search that brought up formatting ExtFAT but nothing conclusive as to if that worked.

I've never had or worked on one but I thought that you could connecexternalal DVD drives, etc. to the things. Seems pretty useless to me if you can't.

Thanks for the input, I'll forward the info.

Patty is correct. The USB port is not for attaching anything to the device. it is for attaching the device to a PC or charging via the AC adapter.

The external storage/expansion is provided via a Micro-SD:

"What can I use the Micro-Micro-SD card slot for?
Memory expansion. You can store files and play the media files stored in the Micro-Micro-SD card via the card slot with the device. (Micro-Micro-SD card is not included)"

Ya, I knew about the SD card.

I guess I'm wrong when I say that it is pretty useless if you can't connect a drive via the USB. I should have said that it is pretty useless to me.

I guess I will consider what I saw about formatting ExtFAT as a red herring. Although... with how I am... I would not be surprised if I ended up wiping my flash drive to give it a try. ;)
