I use IE10 on my Win7 computer. In the past few weeks I have had trouble logging on to various websites......today it was ATT and BestBuy. I soon get an error message at the bottom of the screen that says, for example, "ATT not responding due to long-running script". I usually have to close out that tab and start again.

I don't understand whether it's a script on their website or on my computer. If it is being caused by something on my computer, is there anything I can do to increase the wait time? Or whatever it takes to avoid this error message?

Thanks in advance......

It would usually be a script on the site but try a different browser to see what happens.

It doesn't seem to happen with Chrome.

But if it is a script at the site(s), why did it just suddenly start happening at sites I have visited many times in the past? Do you think my antivirus program (BitDefender) could me causing the problem.......I am finding it to be one weird, intrusive program?

Yes, it could definitely be your AV program!

Thank you, Patty. As my Fearless Leader, could/would you recommend a better AV program to use?

Although it's not an AV program, last year you recommended the use of SyncToy, which I am still using and liking to this day.

Sigh, some will argue this but I would recommend Microsoft's Security Essentials for Anti Virus with a backup of MBAM free for periodic scans.

I'm in total agreement with Jay. I use the built in Windows Defender (Microsoft Security Essentials in Windows 7, same thing), plus Malwarebytes.

Just as a note, I try to use Microsoft programs whenever I can. I have far fewer computer problems that way. I use their AV, their Office Suite, their Photo programs, Money, their browser, OneDrive, and still use SyncToy too!

Thanks Patty & Jay. I'm pretty much a Microsoft fan, although I do stray occasionally, e.g., I use Quicken and BitDefender, but about everything else is Microsoft.

So I am going to try Essentials......

Just make sure that you remove Bit Defender before installing Security Essentials. This may be a bit paranoid but if I am changing AV I download the new with the old still active. I then create a new system image. Then I disconnect from the Internet, remove the old, reboot, install the new. Now I re-connect to the internet and update the new. Make sure that you keep your credentials for Bit Defender in case you want to go back although, from a previous post, it sounds as though you do not like.

It is also possible that you need to do a reset of IE. It has been a while since I've used IE10 but I think that it does have the reset option. While I consider it a minor thing many consider resetting IE to be a major pain. You will lose all your auto completes, cookies, etc.. For instance on your first visit back here you would have to log in even if you have been using auto log on previously.

I don't know if I'd consider myself a Microsoft fan or not. I like the OS, my two all time favorites being Win 2000 and Win 7, but I also run a fair amount of third party software.

Just to close my thread out. I did uninstall BitDefender and I then installed MSE. I was already running the free version of MBAM. Maybe it is psychological, but I do believe that my computer is running faster and smoother (no more script problems). Thanks to all for the advice...........
