It was a strange afternoon on my primary Win 10 computer, which stays on 24/7. After lunch I went in to do some stuff on the computer and found that the computer screen was frozen, and that the mouse and keyboard were useless. As I've reported before, this lock up happens on occasion and requires a restart. So I restarted the computer and clicked on the Computer Haven website.

That's when I got the strange message to the effect that CH would not allow me to log on because my clock was incorrect. I tried other websites and got a similar message. But to me, my computer clock looked OK so I rebooted the computer again. Same result....could not log on to any website.

Then I took a closer look and noticed that the clock in the lower right corner of my screen gave the correct time, but not the correct date. The date shown was 1/22/2099, which is the end of the onboard calendar.

After I reset the clock date to 1/22/2021, all was well and I could log on to any website.

What would have caused this clock error?

My first reaction is that the CMOS battery needs replaced. On the other hand it seems odd that the clock was not updated through the system being on-line.

Have to see if the issue repeats...

Thanks, Jay. I will just wait and see if I get a repeat and we will go from there. These days I really have problems getting down on my knees to work on my tower. Actually, getting down is easier than getting back up.

Actually, now that it dawned on me that the year was 2099, I doubt the CMOS battery.

So, any ideas what would cause that?

Unless it returns after another restart I'd have to consider it to have probably been a gremlin. I know that's not very satisfying but sometimes there just isn't a solid answer. I'd do another restart to see if the clock stays OK. It may have been a residue of the crash.

I have to ask if you did another restart to see if the clock stayed OK. I know you don't want to get down and mess with the system but, if the issue returns, this is one of those cases where I'd advise removing all power to totally shut down the system.

Yes, I did the restart and the clock stayed OK. So I'm suspecting a gremlin.

It's not a matter of not wanting to get down and mess with the system.....I really can't do that anymore at my age and strength level. But I can still remove all power from my computer via my Cyber Power UPS....it is sitting on my desk within easy reach. Among other things, my computer is plugged into this UPS.

So if my clock acts up again, I will unplug my computer from my UPS.

Thanks again, Jay.
