I'm just curious as to if you use the included install CD for adding a new device to your system such as a video card, printer, etc.. As to myself I do not unless it is a new build and I don't have a lot of choice.
Before adding a device to an existing system I will go to the manufacturer's site and download the most recent drivers/software and use that instead of the included install media. I DO still look at what is on the included install media as there are, sometimes, little gems included that will not be included in the downloaded version.

I haven't installed any hardware in quite some time, but I did replace the video card in my wife's PC about a year back. I let Windows detect the device and then I went to the manufacturer's site for the latest drivers.

I don't even take the CD out of the wrap, just use whatever the latest one is available on Manufacturer's website.

I have a new printer supposed to show up tomorrow and already have all possible current drivers, utilities and software downloaded and waiting for the connection.

Sorry but I chicken out, I'm not as confident and use the enclosed CD, especially with the new features that seem to increase when a new printer comes out.

I'll look at the CD, Joan, I just don't bother installing something I'm likely to end up updating anyway. The reason I still look at the CD is that, sometimes, there some hidden gems.

I do what Steve said, let Windows pick it up, then download and install the latest drivers from the manufacturer website.

I'll get updates via the manufacturer but sometimes it's been installed for a while before it shows up that there is a Firmware update or one of the components has an update.
