I have an ASUS I5 laptop dual booting Windows 10 & 7. It is actually a pretty awesome system but about 8 years old. Once either OS is loaded it runs great and is very responsive, it just takes forever to boot. I won't consider replacing the thing as it does run fine and has some perks such as wireless HDMI and the ability to connect to 3 & 4G networks.

My question is would it be worthwhile replacing the 1TB SATA 5400 RPM spin drive with an SSD? Part of the cost of the SSD would be offset as I would still be able to make use of the current spin drive. Current cost for a 1TB 2.5 inch SATA3 SSD would be $95.00-$120.00.

Opinions appreciated. :)

You would most certainly see a performance boost, but I don't know if will improve the boot time by much. Do you really need to go with a 1T SSD? You can save substantially by going with half that size...

Due to dual booting between Windows 10 & 7, and having a data partition, a 1TB drive is optimum. Still, since the data on the system is not really important, I could possibly go smaller.
