OK, I'm in over my head here so I really need help.

I'm playing with an old desktop. I'm trying to install an OS but kept getting an error message about couldn't find hard drive. Went on the net and was told that perhaps the HDD setting in the BIOS was wrong. Perhaps the drive was set to HDCI instead of IDE. I went into the BIOS and found the drive was set ti HDCI so I changed it. The only other option was RAID.

When I rebooted I get the following error message "One or more hard drives are locked with a password. Reboot your system and enter a password or remove the locked drive."

This is the only thing that comes up when I reboot. I CANNOT get to the BIOS to change things back. I have removed the drive and replaced it with the same result.

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

You cannot set a single drive to RAID. It takes at least two drives to setup RAID. Remove the drive and see if you can get to the BIOS. If so change the setting away from RAID. Reconnect the drive and see what happens.

If the above fails it MAY be that you are actually locked out of the BIOS, not the drive. The easiest way to remove a BIOS password is to remove the CMOS battery which looks like a large watch battery about the size of a nickle and unplug the system. Hit the power button a few times then let things sit for a few minutes. Put back the battery and plug the system back in. See what happens.

Jay,
Again, Thank You, Thank you, Thank you!!!

Once again you saved the day! That's why I stop in at Computer Haven every day.

Obviously your directions worked like a charm. Now I'm on to bigger and better problems (just kidding)

Glad to be of help. :)

Was it the RAID setting which I consider likely rather than clearing the BIOS?
