It is quite likely in relation to a mouse from what I've been able to see in a quick search.

What version of Windows?

Is this an older computer? Most of the search results I find deal with XP and Vista. It is possible that it is a device on an older system that is just not supported anymore.

No, Jay. This is Windows 10. An older computer, yes, but current OS.

Older computer, newer OS is what I was thinking. Is anything actually not working?

Take a look in Device Manager to see if anything shows as a device having a problem.

My hunch is that you don't really have an issue but, as always, I could be wrong. Things in 'Devices and Printers' can, at times, be misleading in that they make you think there is an issue were none is present. As an example take the TV tuner on my media system. It shows an unspecified audio device in Devices and Printers yet there is no issue; it is just not set to be used as I use HDMI audio through my video card.

If there are no alerts in Device Manager, and everything works, I really would not worry about this.

Googling the subject of this thread reveals it's for a wireless Microsoft Mouse or Keyboard

Gerry, I didn't even notice the title of the thread, I just went right to your first post. It's better to also include any data that is in the title, in the post itself.

Now having read the title, I'm uncertain what the thread really is about, as it appears that Devices and Printers is telling you exactly what it is. A Microsoft transceiver. And yes, as Peter found, it is the USB receiver for your Microsoft wireless mouse/keyboard. Before reading the title of the thread and only reading your post, I thought you had an unknown device of some sort.
