If you ever do need Silverlight, which you likely already have, the browser or software should let you know. Flash Player is already gone and Silverlight is rapidly fading as they just are not really needed any longer. While there are many other programming languages that are used to build web sites HTML (HyperText Markup Language). HTML version 5, which all current browsers support, already includes most of what Flash and Silverlight did such as video and audio playback.
As an add-on here is an interesting project. It is a functional on-line OS. I don't use it but look to see what is being done now and then. I don't consider it impossible that something like this could be the future. This is written in Silverlight. If you can view the thing your browser supports Silverlight and that is all you really need.
