I got rid of a HP printer that used 62ink. I have one black and one color ink unused. My new printer uses 61ink. Can they be interchanged?

Possible but probably not. Would need the printer model to be able to check.

To start the following use 61 ink:
HP ENVY 5530, ENVY 4500
HP Officejet 4630
HP Deskjet 2540, Deskjet 3000 - J310a, Deskjet 1000 - J110a, Deskjet 3050A - J611g, Deskjet 3510, Deskjet 1010, and Deskjet 3050 - J610a

These use 62 ink:

I don't see any matches but then I don't know if the lists are complete.

The printer that we got rid of was HP Envy 5540 that used 62 ink. The one that we currently have is HP Deskjet 3510 that uses 61 ink. I know that the deskjet is an older printer, but, it works.

I cannot find any reference as to the HP Deskjet 3510 being able to use 62 ink.

They are both exactly the same size. Could anything bad happen if I installed the 62 ink?

Probably no harm as long as you don't force the cartridge as it either fits or not. Please realize that even if the cartridge physically fits it may still not actually work as the printer may not be able to recognize the cartridge's chip.

To be honest I would probably give it a try but cannot advise that others do the same. If you do try I am serious about not trying to force the cartridge even if it seems like it is just about there. The two different cartridges may look the same but could have a guide or tab that is different but not really noticeable. Forcing in such a situation could cause damage to the printer.

Considering that you can get both cartridges for $34.95 in XL capacity the safe route is to just bite the bullet and get rid of the 62 cartridges.

The initial page will show a price of $63.29 but that is for 3 black and 2 color making a 5-pack. Using third party ink could void your printer warranty but I doubt that it is under warranty anyway.

No problem. :) Getting rid of them is the safe way to go. While they may work is it really worth the risk when you consider the price of cartridges versus the price of a printer? ;)
