This strikes me as a bit odd but odd is expected when running Windows 10 Pro and running a game designed for Windows 2000/XP. The game in question is Zuma Deluxe. What is rather weird is that it works at times but not others. It will work just fine for a while then will fail. Set some compatibility settings and it will work for a while and then start failing. Remove the compatibility settings and it works again. Anyone ever run into this 'back and forth' type situation with an old program? Functionally this is not a big deal to me as I know what to do on a failure. It just seems really weird to me.

I had to do something to Luxor (same family as Zuma) to get it to work right, I forget now what it was.

Hey, I have all four of the Luxor games. I think that Zuma and Zuma's Revenge are a bit better done but also like the Luxor series. Haven't had any issue with any of the Luxor games or Zuma's Revenge, just Zuma Deluxe which, I think, is the oldest of the six.

I think the issues were with an earlier build of Windows 10 that were fixed in later releases.

Actually I think some of the issues with these old games relates to current video cards. For instance I cannot select to use hardware acceleration in Zuma Deluxe. It comes back with a dialog saying that my video card is not able. I think the actual fact is that the game cannot recognize a current graphics chip so assumes that the cards is not able.

Well, part of the problem is that you have to be really old to run that old stuff, and the two of you are just kids.

Since you are SO old and wise, and I'm just a young kid, I should probably not try to express my inexperience in your hosting thread... LOL! Can't wait for the reply on that one! Notice how I made this part small so BB's old eyes can't read... @ dvair: I take it that you also like Zuma/Luxor type games. Even though I know it isn't true; I could swear that they, sometimes, change the ball color in mid shot!

Yep, I have a couple of them on CD. Luxor, Peggle, Bejeweled... I have so many old games but they won't run on this new hardware.

I totally hate such games as Bejeweled. On the more serious side why won't these old games run on your hardware? Have you tried adjusting Compatibility mode to XP SP 2 or 3? Also using Compatibility to reduce color depth sometimes does wonders with these old games.

I am sure the newer ones will work, I have some old ones that will only run on 32 bit architecture. If I really wanted to play them again I would get them to work, just no real desire to. Heck, I still have a MAME32 emulator with 475 games I don't even use.

But Jay, if you don't express your inexperience and if I don't let you help me with all this hosting stuff, how are you going to learn? I feel I owe you that.

This issue SEEMS to be solved with the May 2019 version 1903 update for Windows 10. I have not had the issue since updating to version 1903.
