Post subject:  Too many processors in Device Manager

I'm just kind of curious. My main system is running an AMD Ryzen 7 1800X 8-core processor.

What has me curious is that it is an 8-core processor yet Device Manager shows 16 processors. It DOES have 16 'threads'. Could it be the 16 threads that Device Manager is seeing?

<edit>
I almost deleted this post but hate it myself when I get a post notification and there is nothing here.

The answer seems to be that, yes, it is the 16 threads that Device manager is seeing. As to the relation between processor cores and threads here are two decent articles. The first is a little techy but the second is wonderful as to explaining simply with a touch of humor.

LOVE this short article! Almost moved this to advanced just due to the subject matter but I believe that this article makes that not needed.

It all boils down to the fact that my processor has a feature called 'Hyper Threading'. That means that each core can pretty much perform as being two cores. Hence Device Manager shows 16 processors/cores.

If any feel that this should still be in 'Advanced' let me know and I'll move it. :)
