Just looking for opinions...

Obviously, as most are probably tired of hearing about, I am finishing up a new computer build.

My question involves my system images...

On the old system I had a 1 TB internal drive partitioned in half to serve as my data drive and nightly system image backup drive. For the new build I also got a 2 TB drive that I figured to use for the system images allowing me to use the entire 1 TB drive as data. My thought was that I could then include my data drive in the system images.

After thinking about it seems to me that it is ridiculous as my data drive is 239 GB in size. Also the data is synced between my main and laptop systems so there is always a redundant copy between the two. Also my music and photos are backed up automatically on One Drive.

It would seem to me to make more sense to partition the 2 TB drive for data and just system drive images. Then I would use the 1 TB drive for rebuilding my old system which I intend to do.

Am I missing anything?

Makes sense to me, although I generally avoid partitioning these days. Since there's loads of free space on the 2T drive, partitioning in order to put your system drive backups there is valid.

Storing images on a partition of the drive you are imaging is not wise. If the drive fails you lose it all Since you are building it put two internal drives and now you the best of both.

I'm not doing an image of the drive that the images go to.

You have one drive you are partitioning. A for stuff B for images. If the physical drive fails you lose both stuff and images. Bad plan.

Yes the drive is partitioned for images and data. I only image the system drive. There are redundant copies of all the data.
