I have done so more times than I could possibly count. Ticks me off every time as I have my Bin located on my Taskbar and it is several steps to restore. I REALLY don't understand why there is an option to delete the Recycle Bin in the right click context menu... Makes zero sense to me. You are emptying the Bin and are in a hurry. You are thinking delete so you click 'Delete'; Recycle Bin gone... Grrrrr. Mayhaps no others have this problem but I sure do.

Unfortunately, even making Registry changes, you cannot get rid of the 'Delete' option but you CAN fool it. :) While you cannot remove the delete option you CAN replace it. In this case we will replace with a search option... why not?

Yes this deals with Registry changes which is why I posted this in Advanced. Go to the following link to get the Registry hacks to hide the Delete option and to restore. It is the bottom download option at this time. I will include 'code blocks' below to show the actual Registry changes.

I have totally proven this in Windows 10 and Windows 7. Since it works in 10 and 7 I would assume that it will work in Windows 8/8.1 but cannot prove. Even if it does not work it should cause no harm. It should also work in Windows Vista.

Registry hack to kill the delete option:
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\shell\Delete]
"Description"="Overrides the \"Delete\" option"
@="Search..."

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\shell\Delete\command]
@=hex(2):25,00,77,00,69,00,6e,00,64,00,69,00,72,00,25,00,5c,00,65,00,78,00,70,\
  00,6c,00,6f,00,72,00,65,00,72,00,2e,00,65,00,78,00,65,00,00,00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\shell\Delete\ddeexec]
@="[FindFolder(\\\"%l\\\", %I)]"
"NoActivateHandler"=""

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\shell\Delete\ddeexec\Application]
@="Folders"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\shell\Delete\ddeexec\topic]
@="AppProperties"

Registry hack to restore the delete option:
Code:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\shell\Delete]

Never had the problem Jay, but I tend to empty my Rubbish bin during a disk clean up when first turning on at regular intervals.
It's nice that you have worked out a fix that people can use if others have the problem. :-)

Never deleted it, as it is one of the first things I disable. Never use it.
