I am just curious here, is there any way to have the new posts stay listed for a while longer. Not sure how to say it, but they don't seem to stay posted for very long.
Cheers: Rich

Not quite sure what you mean Rich, do you mean that when you hit the View new posts button at the top of the page it opens but doesn't stay open or that there aren't many posts listed ? After people read the posts then I don't suppose they are new posts anymore so there's not reason for them to be listed.

Unread and New posts are probably the most commonly used links.
View Unread posts is exactly that, you have nor read them.
New posts will still list even after being read but not after leaving the forums and coming back. When you leave the forums your session ends and the new post counter is reset for your account.

Rich, if you use Unread Posts, you can simply click on one, read it, then use your back button to go back to the prior page. It will show you the now Unread Posts (minus the one you just read), or you can click on the Unread Posts link on any page. You could also open the Unread posts, then CTL+Click on each of the posts there, and each one will open in its own tab.
If you want to go back to a post which was unread, but now you have read it, use New Posts, as Jay points out. That will show you everything that was new in your current forum session. Once you leave the forum, this disappears. At that point you would have to either search for a post, or browse the forum for it. It's a good idea to take note of what forum a post is posted in so you can go to that specific forum to find it again.

One other note. You can use the "View your posts" link if you have replied within a thread you are looking for.
Rich, think Vista Help. Even though the style is totally different it is the same exact software.

I've learnt a bit now, thanks Patty and Jay. I don't actually use those buttons I just start at the top on the Home page and work my way down clicking on the icon showing there are new posts in that particular sub forum and carry on until I get to the end.

You should give "view unread posts" a go, Joan. Would save you a lot of clicking.

Ok, thanks so much I understand it a bit better now. I think I know what I was doing wrong. Once you view and read new posts there really isn't any reason to see them again. It makes sense that once you close out a session, it would reset. Thanks again.

PS: I have one more question. Do you always have to subscribe to a topic??? I thought if I started a new thread or made a new post, I would automatically get responses to it via email??? Is this wrong thinking????

In your User Control Panel under Board preferences you will find an option for Edit posting defaults. In that you will see an option to Notify me upon replies by default. Select that and threads where you have participated should send notifications.

Thanks Jay, that did the trick. Like you said, this software is identical to VistaHelp, I just don't remember setting any default, but, that was a long time ago. Have you heard anything from Kerry????

I guess he is busy with his business and his internet political association. He is a great guy and very smart computer tech.
