Need your help what to do to recover the serial number of Windows Vista after the hard drive wipe out. This is my biggest mistake that I did not write down the serial number of the operating system before wipe out. I learned the hard lesson for next time or future reference. OK I do have the recovery disks for the laptop, Toshiba Satellite A210. I am wondering if I have to contact Microsoft to recover my serial number or it's very expensive to get this. Will the recovery disks have the serial number in it or not?

Your help would be appreciated.

Thank you,

John

Your Windows license key for an OEM copy of the Operating System (supplied with a new PC by the manufacturer) should be on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop or the back or side of a desktop PC case. Microsoft does not have your license key. In the absence of a sticker on the PC, you'd need to contact Toshiba to determine where the license key was or if it is embedded in the recovery disc.
I had an Averatec PC with XP long ago where the restore discs were actually a Norton Ghost recovery image set of 3 discs. In the case of Toshiba, that's not likely, but it is possible that the copy of Windows on the Recovery disc recognizes the hardware to allow install and it doesn't require entry of a key.

Good news and had the recovery disks to install them. No problem to install Microsoft Vista with the activation key in it. Right now I am trying to get different programs that I used them before.

Thank you,

John
