I always use Outlook 2010 in a half screen window and new email windows at one quarter screen. I use a right-screen reading pane view. Those views have remained default for years, but two days ago Outlook opened full screen with no reading pane, my new mail font choice is gone and sizing on the new mail window is twice what it was. I have reset them all to the previous views several times, but each time I open the program everything is messed up again. I ran scanpst.exe and it found errors, repaired them, but did not fix my problem. I can't find any settings to correct this behavior in File/Options/Mail Tab or anywhere else. Where else should I be looking for a solution?

Following an update this week, Outlook 2010 is opening in Safe Mode.
http://www.infoworld.com/article/301321 ... -2010.html

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3114409

You can try removing the offending update.
How to uninstall this update

Windows 10
1.Go to Start, enter View Installed Updates in the Search Windows box, and then press Enter.
2.In the list of updates, locate and then select update KB3114409, and then select Uninstall.
Windows 8 and Windows 8.1
1.Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then select Search. If you're using a mouse, point to the lower-right corner of the screen, and then select Search.
2.Enter windows update, select Windows Update, and then select Installed Updates.
3.In the list of updates, locate and then select update KB3114409, and then select Uninstall.
Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP
1.Go to Start, enter Run, and then select Run.
2.Enter Appwiz.cpl, and then select OK.
3.Use one of the following procedures, depending on the operating system that you're running.
•Windows 7 and Windows Vista
a.Select View installed updates.
b.In the list of updates, locate and select update KB3114409, and then select Uninstall.

•Windows XP
a.Select the Show updates check box.
b.In the list of updates, locate and select update KB3114409, and then select Remove.

Another workaround involves registry editing (I don't suggest this option, though):
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security\
1. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
2. Type DisableSafeMode, and then press Enter.
3. In the Details pane, right-click DisableSafeMode, and then click Modify.
4. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

Thank you so much, Steve. Removing that update solved the problem quickly. I knew that I hadn't done anything to cause this, but didn't even think that it might be a Microsoft undoing. Now, what are the chances that they may update that same KB, since it is now missing from my computer, in the future?

Take Two -- Disregard my question re Microsoft re-doing the update. I have since read your earlier linked article reporting that the update has been taken down by Microsoft, so guess we are now OK again for good.
