My smart phone came with a wall charger and a removable USB cord that plugs into
the wall charger and the other end into the phone.
I don't have a car cigarette lighter adapter for the USB cable but the car does
have a USB port and a 120vac 150watt outlet. So, right now I could use the
USB port or the 120vac outlet to charge the phone in the car.
Do you have any thoughts as to which power source in the car would
be the best one to use?

I would think that either source would work equally well but would also think that the direct USB whould be easier on the car's electrical system.

Manny or others MAY be able to give better advice but it would seem to me that the 120 volt output is probably passive meaning that it does not draw on the car's electrical system unless there is a draw on the line. I would also think that once a draw is put on the 120 line it would draw a lot more from the car's electrical system than the USB port.

Bottom line is that your car is set up to go either way and will likely do what you want without issue in either case. Still I'd probably use the USB port.

The USB connection will suffice and is the easiest solution.

I use the USB port because it's simpler. Either works just fine. The draw is really irrelevant since it's minor and basically used when the car is running. I wouldn't leave it plugged in while the car is off since it could discharge a flaky battery. Although, it's likely there's no power at the outlets when the car is off. I'm not sure about that.

LOL! I guess it is unanimous to use the USB. :)

I sort of have the same setup but not factory. My Sable has a cigarette lighter but also a second outlet that is the same type as the lighter. I have a small 100 watt power inverter (your 120 volt line) that I can plug in if needed for something like powering my laptop if on an extended photo shoot or something. Sigh... If I ever get around to actually retireing as I intend I may actually get to use the danged thing on an extended photo shoot. ;)
