These things are beginning to get affordable. :)

Here's the latest from Crucial:

Now I see that the manufacturer of SSD's have started dropping their prices. I am going to wait a little longer to see the prices go down more than we see the price today.

That is nice to see Patty. :) Eventually platter drives will be as archaic as acoustic modems. When prices get below $200.00 I will probably replace my 1 TB platter data drive with an SSD.

Remember a discussion quite ago about write cycles and SSD longevity? Well prices dropping on larger drives will also help improve longevity. An SSD writes to different parts of the drive at different times to balance write cycles. A larger drive with the same amount of data will write to each portion less often thus increasing longevity. This write cycle management is why any partitions on an SSD are virtual, not physical like a platter drive. The drive still writes wherever it wants regardless of partitions. A partition is visual for convenience only.

For any not aware the term 'platter drive' refers to a mechanical drive with spinning disks. Each disk is a platter.

Samsung now has a SSD drive, including a 1TB, guaranteed for ten years. If you write 50 gb of data to it EVERYDAY it will last 20 years. Price may be another thing though.

That's good news Patty, I've thought before of having an SSD fitted into this Notebook, the one in it at the moment is 320GB so it would be nice to have more storage.
