I have mentioned the Winaero Tweaker in several threads but they offer some other nice things too.

Windows 7 games added to WIndows 8, 8.1 and 10. (This one works Patty)

Old style calculator for Windows 10.

Classic Sticky Notes.

Classic Task Manager and MSCONFIG in Windows 10. (Installer needs permission to run.)

Awesome, Jay! Got it installed already! :)

I assume that you refer to the games. ;) Winaero does a nice job of making things pretty simple. LOL! Of course the main difference is that this process worked but, even beyond that, the process was much simpler than what we tried a while back.

One thing that I especially like is that no system files are affected as these are all actual installs that even appear in Programs and Features. Well actually I'm not sure that the classic Task Manager/MSCONFIG does not affect any system files but it seems to work like a charm.

You should look at all they offer. Just browse their download page a bit.

I swear that I LOVE these people!

Media Center is now working in Windows 10 Pro. I haven't setup my TV tuner yet but all my pictures, music and movies are now available via Media Center.

I don't know if I'll keep the thing as I'm already setup pretty solid but I wanted to see if it actually worked... apparently it does. :)

Oh gosh... Media Center would be nice... ;)

Here is a direct link to Media Center.
http://winaero.com/download.php?view.1837

There are both 32 and 64 bit versions included. Make sure to read the 'readme' for the desired version. After running step 1) step 2) failed but after doing a restart and starting over all went well.

$#@%&(^&$@^(&....))(&^... **&^%#^

LOL! Translate any way you want!

I forgot about this problem. I can't get Media Center to setup my TV tuner. Sigh, I can't find the clicker for the stupid USB tuner and Media Cernter won't allow finishing the setup without the stupid clicker being present.

As far as actually being able to use the tuner the missing remote is not an issue as I have the thing connected to my cable box. The clicker for the cable box does just fine but is not seen by Media Center.

Thanks, Jay. I'm not sure I will do this, though it's nice to have the option. I've taken down my over-the-air antenna, which was pretty much useless now that everything has gone digital anyway. I would use it only to watch DVDs - and I don't do that very often. I dislike dealing with Media Player Classic, but it works. Also, I'm sure you don't get the Guide anymore in Media Center, in fact that didn't work for a long time before Media Center was retired - so I'm not sure what Media Center really has to offer at this point.

I'll probably get rid of it myself Patty although it is not a bad way to do Netflix.

Post subject:  Re: Some likeable links...

Actually, Patty, I already removed Media Center. The only reason that I was really interested is that I prefer the Media Center interface for NetFlix over that currently on their site.

Unfortunately the NetFlix add-on won't install due to your guess about the 'Guide' no longer being available being totally correct. Part of the NetFlix add-on involves the Guide. When the Guide fails the whole thing does. Since the dedicated software for my TV tuner works just fine, including acting as a DVR, I have no use for Media Center without NetFlix.

Still I find the Winaero links worth it just for the Windows 7 games. ;)

Speaking of Win 7 games... Everything seems to work fine except for 'The Labyrinth Plus Edition'. A launch would totally disrupt my display to where I had to alt-ctrl-del and select to sign out to restore my desktop.

I have ran into this with other old games on my setup but then I'm running on a 42 inch monitor set at 125% for everything.

Under Properties/Compatibility, disable display scaling on high DPI settings. This worked for me and all is well with the game. :)

I did not install the following so don't know if there are any issues:
Purple Place
On-line Backgammon
Mine Sweeper

BTW, the other on-line games such as checkers and spades do seem to work fine.

I don't recall ever seeing Labyrinth Plus. It doesn't have David Bowie in it, does it? LOL

I didn't install the same ones you didn't install. ;) So nice to have Hearts and Free Cell back again! I just hated the Microsoft Solitaire package at the Store.

Nope, no David Bowie. :( Another :( is that I thought that I had the movie Labyrinth but don't. I'll have to find it somewhere.

As to the game it can be entertaining and you should have it if we denied the same games. Look under All Programs/Games from the Start Menu. Remember to scroll to the 'Ts' as it is The Labyrinth, not just Labyrinth.

As far as to what it is do you remember the old wood maze game you held in your hand and had to tilt to move the ball avoiding obstacles? That is what it is. You tilt the board with the mouse.

No, it's not there. I don't have it, never have had it. I don't think it was part of the Windows Games. I've never had it in any version at any time that I can recall.

Hmmm, I just ran the installer again to be sure and you are quite right, it is not there...

Since it is the 'Plus! Edition' I wonder if it could have been part of the XP Plus CD and I just did not notice the thing until now.

Yup. I knew I had seen it before. Haven't had Plus installed for many years, but that's where it was.

John wasn't very impressed with the Solitaire package in 10, that was really the only game he plays on the computer, that and Majong.

You should get him the Windows7 package, Joan. He'll be very pleased!

Joan, to make it easy here is the link to install Windows 7 games so you don't have to scroll back to the first post. During the install you can pick which games are wanted.

Post subject:  Re: Some likeable links...

OK... The Windows 10 Creator's upgrade broke Windows 7 Solitaire but the rest seem to have survived. Still all is not lost.

First I tried using the Windows 7 games patch again but still did not have Solitaire. This was my fault as I tried using the same shortcut in my games link folder as normal. All I had to do was to create a new shortcut after re-installing Solitaire. I discovered this by opening the Properties for the initial shortcut finding that it pointed to the Windows.old folder created by the Windows 10 upgrade.

For some reason the Windows 10 upgrade moves Windows 7 Solitaire to the Windows.old folder causing a permissions issue. At least it is my guess that it is a permissions issue.

Using the patch again, and creating a new shortcut, fixes the issue... at least it did on my system. Here is the link to the patch if needed. It is the same as listed in the first post in this thread. It is not a fix it is just that Solitaire needs to be installed again after the Creator's upgrade. I really don't understand why Solitaire, and only Solitaire out of the package of games, would need to be reinstalled but on my system it was needed.
