I've shared this fire festival with you before but it's been several years since the last time, this one has drone footage which i believe is a first? It was streamed live earlier but is now availabe to watch as live: Live from Shetland: Lerwick Up Helly Aa 2024 torchlit procession and galley burning https://www.youtube.com/live/wxL91ldLrXc?si=JHs9wjpFFMMrRjcp Fwiw, in the first 5:00 minutes nothing really happens but there is some intersting information from the commentator after that, if you want to go straight to when the procession begins then go to circa 37:30. I love that it's not been taken over by commercial intersts (though it does have sponsorship), for the most part it remains a community led event on behalf of and for the community. |
